New equipment is now available in the Cedar Valley to make recycling at walk/run events or festivals more convenient for both festival committees AND event attendees.
Our Waste Trac Education Team (which is a partnership between the Black Hawk County Conservation Board and the Black Hawk County Solid Waste Management Commission), wrote a recycling grant and were awarded a forgivable loan from the Iowa DNR to purchase Recycle Clear portable recycling containers. The recycling bins can be used at events to collect 5 cent deposit containers and plastic water bottles.
We finally have all the equipment bought, signs created, policies set, and are now ready to roll out our project! Our equipment was used most recently at the Iowa Irish Fest and Live to 9, and is on the calendar to visit various community events this fall.
The equipment is first come, first served, so we are recommending that group organizers turn in their applications months ahead of time to lock in their date and to make sure recycling equipment is available. The project provides the equipment at no cost and provides collection bags and cleaning supplies. To ensure the return of our equipment we do require a refundable equipment deposit, but as soon as your recycling numbers are turned in and the equipment is returned complete and clean, we will just give your deposit check back. The equipment can also be used for city celebrations, school carnivals, green weddings, workshops, block parties, sports tournaments, and class reunions to name just a few. Wherever you think there might be cans or bottles!

Waste Trac is based at Hartman Reserve Nature Center in Cedar Falls at a satellite office within the park. All equipment must be picked up at our Waste Trac office, as we are not able to deliver.
