In a ceremony at Cedar Falls City Hall on Wednesday, Mayor Danny Laudick officially signed a proclamation solidifying the city’s commitment to outdoor recreation and trail development. The proclamation was presented by Butch Niebuhr, Iowa Coordinator for the American Discovery Trail, a national system of interconnected trails spanning thousands of miles across the United States.

Mayor Laudick spoke passionately about the importance of trails to the quality of life in Cedar Falls, emphasizing the city’s long-standing dedication to recreational opportunities. “The City of Cedar Falls has long valued and invested in the art of running, biking, hiking, and trail amenities," he said. "Trail amenities are a key component of our area’s quality of life, and this opportunity further cements our community’s commitment to outdoor recreation.”

The mayor commended the American Discovery Trail Society for its ongoing work in developing, maintaining, and improving the ambitious trail system. He also encouraged Cedar Falls residents to take full advantage of the trail. "I encourage all Cedar Falls residents to hike or bike the American Discovery Trail, making use of one of the most ambitious recreational trail projects in the United States that we have the opportunity to be a part of."

The American Discovery Trail spans more than 6,800 miles across 15 states, connecting urban areas, small towns, and natural landmarks. Cedar Falls’ recognition of this trail highlights the city’s dedication to being a hub for outdoor activities and a vibrant part of this national effort.

The ceremony reflects the city’s ongoing efforts to enhance its trail systems and outdoor amenities, reinforcing Cedar Falls as a destination for recreational enthusiasts and a model for community-focused outdoor living.
