The City of Cedar Falls has achieved a significant milestone by being recognized as the first Trail Town in Iowa and only the second in the United States by the American Discovery Trail (ADT). This designation highlights Cedar Falls' commitment to supporting outdoor recreation, enhancing community health, and fostering economic development while promoting the ADT as a national treasure.
The ADT spans 6,800 miles from Delaware to California, traversing 15 states and the District of Columbia. It serves as a vital non-motorized route for millions of people, promoting the preservation of natural, scenic, and cultural resources. Cedar Falls’ designation as a Trail Town is especially notable as it is the first city west of the Mississippi to receive this honor.
For hardcore hikers and cyclists passing through the Cedar Valley, the local area offers a welcoming stop for rest, resupply, and relaxation. The ADT route through Cedar Falls seamlessly connects with the Cedar Valley Trails, providing access via George Wyth State Park and continuing along the Cedar Prairie Trail, making it an ideal point for outdoor enthusiasts to recharge before continuing their journey.
Hikers and cyclists seeking a shorter route but still wanting to experience the ADT trail in Cedar Falls will find the Cedar Valley Trail map to be a great resource for planning their route within the community. The map highlights various sections of the trail, making it easier to explore the area at your own pace.
Cedar Falls offers a variety of hotels located on or near the trails, including the Hampton Inn and Black Hawk Hotel. These are conveniently situated right on the trail system in downtown Cedar Falls, just steps away from local restaurants, shopping, and nightlife. It's the perfect spot to enjoy the outdoors while also exploring the vibrant local scene.
