Cedar Valley Trails, Prairie Lakes Trail in Cedar Falls
In 1993, the American Hiking Society established National Trails Day to commemorate the ways Americans enjoy public trails. In Cedar Falls, Mayor Green has declared June 6, 2020, as Cedar Falls Trails Day.
Over decades, organizations such as the Cedar Trails Partnership, Cedar Valley Association for Soft Trails, Hartman Reserve, George Wyth State Park, Impact Outdoors, the Cedar Falls Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee and the Black Hawk County Conservation Board have worked to ensure a quality experience for visitors and residents on local trails.
The Cedar Valley boasts a trail system that includes more than 100 miles of hard-surfaced and soft trails that meander through county parks, George Wyth State Park and public lands. In 2019, the Rails to Trails Conservancy also announced Cedar Falls as a connection point for the Great American Rail-Trail, a 3,700 mile paved bicycle and pedestrian trail connecting Washington D.C. to Washington state.
To celebrate the trail system and the organizations and groups that have worked hard to develop, promote, improve and maintain the trails, Mayor Robert M. Green proclaims June 6, 2020, as Cedar Falls Trails Day. It’s a day to enjoy Cedar Valley Trails with a walk, run or bike ride or a paddle on one of our water trails.
If you haven’t already, we encourage you to pick up a Cedar Valley Trails & Recreation Guide at the Cedar Falls Visitor Center. It includes a map of water trails as well as paved trails. Or, request a Trail Guide HERE or view the PDF HERE.
