| TC's Hidden Treasure By Susan Rolinger Sponsored by First Bank Inside - 602 Main St., Cedar Falls Materials Used Susan notes that "most of TC's hidden treasures are painted! Dennis Nelson at Regal Plastics helped fabricate TC's watchband, coin, and slot parts for me to attach and embellish." Resin was used over the wire, jewel, and painted watch face. The Design (in the Artist's words) "My initial idea was for TC to look like a giant old-school coin bank. Hiding images in the detailed artwork allows this TC to provide some entertainment too." About the Artist Susan's artistic talent was evident from childhood and high school, where it was recognized and rewarded. However, during college, graduate school, and while raising her daughters, she only sporadically engaged in art projects for enjoyment. Throughout her life, Susan has crafted gifts for her loved ones, including paintings, drawings, sculptures, murals, jewelry, pottery, and more. Despite her artistic talents, Susan has pursued various roles outside the art world, including counselor, stay-at-home mom, public speaker, family support specialist/trainer, and statewide programs director. Panthers on Parade provides Susan with an opportunity to utilize her artistic skills, which she has honed over decades, to create a gift for her cherished community—the University of Northern Iowa family and the Cedar Valley. Susan maintains a strong connection to UNI, having graduated with a BA in psychology and English from the university. Additionally, her uncle and older sister were basketball players for UNI, and she herself was a member of the UNI tennis team. Proudly affiliated with the UNI Panther Scholarship Club and Alumni Association, Susan feels a deep sense of belonging to her alma mater. Delightfully connected to her sponsor, First Bank, Susan looks forward to seeing how their marketing team shares clues to the hidden images within her artwork. Susan is open to receiving requests for additional projects. |
