The Design (in the Artist's words) “Aqua Cat was inspired by the beach" About the Artist Rachel Heine, the daughter of two UNI alumni, is graduating in May of 2024 with a major in Graphic Design and a minor in Marketing. She has secured an internship with Walt Disney Imagineering starting in June 2024, where she will serve as the Character Plaster Intern, eagerly anticipating the opportunity to collaborate with professionals in the theme park industry. Over the past two summers, Rachel has dedicated her time to working for the Public Art Incubator program at the University of Northern Iowa. In this role, she has actively participated in the fabrication of sculpture pieces commissioned by UNI, engaging in tasks such as welding, grinding, sanding, painting, cleaning, and installation. In 2023, Rachel embarked on an internship with Universal Creative in Florida. Throughout her time there, she contributed to various Universal theme park projects by assisting in design work, creating concrete samples, and meticulously documenting samples. During the fall of 2023, Rachel accomplished a significant milestone by completing her first public art sculpture. She meticulously designed, assembled, welded, and painted an aluminum sculpture of a treble clef, which now stands proudly on Main Street in Cedar Falls. Rachel thrives in environments where she can collaborate with creative individuals and acquire new skills. She has a passion for hands-on projects and attributes much of her growth and success to the Public Art Incubator program led by Dan Perry. Her enthusiasm for public art led her to participate in Panthers on Parade, where she expressed her excitement at the opportunity to contribute to the community where she has spent her college years. Reflecting on her experiences, Rachel expressed gratitude for the privilege of working with her sponsors, noting that exchanging ideas was seamless, and she is delighted with the outcome of both projects. Rachel is the artist for two TC Mascots in Panthers on Parade. See her other design: TC Moneybags.
